31/10/2014Vesterålen has many wonderful attractions and a sensational landscape with unforgettable scenery and views. There are many fascinating mountain ranges, deep fjords, beaches of pure-white sand and extensive woodland areas to enjoy and behold. Out beyond the islands of Vesterålen, you find yourself out on the open seas. Both Trollfjord in Rafsundet and the old fishing village Nyksund, in Øksnes, are magical experiences well worth a visit.

14/03/2018Southeast on Hadseløya, popularly known as the "outer side" of Hadseløya, is home to Teigan, a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Not only because of the fine sandy beach, mountains and rural nature in the immediate area, but also because of a small structure called "Uværshula" that is well shielded between two outcrops down at the shore. The popularity of this storm shelter caused several to be built in other locations.

The site, which was protected by the National Cultural Heritage Authrities in 1994, has been rehabilitated in the period 2005 - 2020 according to antiquarian principles and will give visitors an exciting cultural experience.

27/02/2017Andøy Museum is located on the edge of the ocean at Andenes, besides Andenes lighthouse. Andenes Lighthouse was completed in 1859 and was the start of a major development in Andenes Havn. The lighthouse tells the story of the fishing village and the people who have inhabited this place for 1,500 years. But best of all is the view, it’s absolutely amazing!

We provide a 12 minute slideshow that captures the atmosphere and gives an overview of the activities that took place at Melbu in the beginning of the 19th Century. In addition, one of our guides can show you the house and recount its history.

Visit Parkvoll, formerly the bailiff´s residence, where you will find special emphasis to the female author Regine Normann. Regine Normann is well known for her work with both fairytales and novels. Let the children visit the fairytale forest, see the fisherman cabin (rorbu) and boathouse.

27/02/2017The old Trading Post at Jennestad (8 km from Sortland): An old trading post, located by the sea, easily accessible by boat – as it should be in the old days. Time has stood still after the closing of the shop in 1982. The shelves offers authentic products of all kinds, and you may also visit the old post office and ship expedition office. Free entrance. Visitors may buy locally produced arts and crafts (husflid), postcards, sweets, literature and more. Nearby art gallery (100 m) also well worth a visit.
