The journey to and around Fem Fiskevær
The journey around Fem Fiskevær is a very special experience in itself, and can be done in many different ways.
How to get to Fem Fiskevær:
First you may have to get to Vesterålen.
To Vesterålen by plane
From Evenes there is an airport shuttle - Flybussen - to Sortland in Vesterålen. Tickets and timetable are available at flybussen.no (you must create a profile if you are not registered)
There is also an airport shuttle between Skagen Airport - Stokmarknes and Sortland, timetable can be found here.
If you come from the south with your own vehicle, follow the E6 through Norway up to Bognes. Here you can take the ferry Bognes-Lødingen and then continue a short distance on RV85 before you turn onto the E10 towards Vesterålen. The last part of the road towards Vesterålen is also RV85.
An alternative route is the ferry connection Bognes-Skarberget, which is the only remaining ferry connection on the E6 in Norway. Here you can choose to take the ferry and follow the E6 to Narvik and Bjerkvik, before taking the E10 and then RV85 to Vesterålen.
If you come from the north, the easiest way is to follow the E6 to Bjerkvik and then the E10 and RV85.If you come from the north, the easiest way is to follow the E6 to Bjerkvik and then the E10 and RV85.
Sortland is a hub in Vesterålen and here you will also find the local buses that go to the districts. To Fem Fiskevær you can either drive yourself via FV820 and FV821 to Myre (a good starting point to visit 5 fishing villages), or take a bus from Sortland to Myre. Route information and timetable can be found on Reis Nordland, you can also use the route planner on the home page.
With Kystruten Bergen - Kirkenes (Hurtigruten and Havila) you can call at Vesterålen in Risøyhamn, Sortland or Stokmarknes. Transport to Fem Fiskevær will then be by local bus or rental car, if you do not have your own car on Kystruten.
The journey in the Five Fishing villages:
Myre, which is one of 5 fishing villages, is a hub to reach the other 4. From here there is a public express boat if you want to visit Fiskeværet Skipnes and Handelsstedet Tinden. Timetable "Myre - Skjellfjord - Myre" can be found here. It is also possible to hike along the path between Skipnes and Tinden.
To Stø you can drive FV7668 or take local bus 862 which runs the section Sortland - Myre - Stø.
If you are going to Nyksund, follow FV 7668 and then FV7672. It requires a little more planning if you want to travel by bus. This bus route follows the school year and has therefore reduced the number of departures during holidays. We recommend using the route planner on reisnordland.no to gain access to timetables / days. In the search field, select from Myre (Øksnes) to Nyksund (Øksnes).
It is also possible to use a local taxi to travel to Stø and Nyksund, and several of the activity providers in the area offer boat transport between the fishing villages.
