5 places to see the Northern Lights in Vesterålen

It is possible to see Northern Lights on any clear night in areas with low levels of light pollution, but combining the chase for the Aurora with an activity will make the experience truly magical. Here are five unique places to see Northern Lights in vesterålen:

Nyksund, Øksnes

The historic fisherman’s village of Nyksund can turn off the outdoor lighting on clear nights so both locals and visitors can see the Aurora Borealis better.

"Uværshula", Hadsel

Cosy up around a campfire by «Uværshula» on Hadseløya as you wait for the Northern Lights. Bring candles, a hot drink and blankets for atmosphere.

Steiroheia, Sortland

Go for a family hike to Steiroheia (443 masl) in Sortland for a lovely evening activity in autumn. The walk up to Kvila cabin at Steiroheia summit takes about 1 hour, but if you want a shorter walk you can stop by the DNT cabin Turlagsstua. Bring a headlamp.

Vinje, Bø

The view towards Gaukværøy, with the arctic light as a backdrop, is a popular photo motif. From Vinje you can also see the Artscape Nordland sculpture "The Man From The Sea"s. Best on clear nights with high levels of Aurora activity.

Kleivodden, Andøy

Along National Tourist Route Andøya is Kleivodden viewpoint, looking out towards Bleik Island. Great place to stop and view the lightshow, close to the road. Make sure to stip by Bleik Beach while you are in the area.
