Storheia Arena – The mountain for everyone

With an altitude of 504 masl, Storheia offers breath-taking views of Langøya, Hadseløya, Møysalen and the craggy mountains at Austvågøya. Ever since the road leading from sea to summit was paved in 2019, the mountain has been accessible for everyone.

The work done by Hadsel Municipality of making Storheia and its surroundings available for all, has been pioneering for the public health. In the summer of 2019, the paved and upgraded road was finished. A few weeks later, Storheia Arena officially opened. And with a bang! The first event that took place was no less than the world’s most beautiful bike race, Arctic Race of Norway. The iconic mast at the summit marked the end of the third stage - the most challenging finish of the race yet.

However, hosting the bike race only marks the beginning. The work of making the already popular mountain accessible for more than the experienced hikers, are based on core values of sustainability, teamwork and inclusion. Already people with wheelchairs, strollers, bikes and roller skis have started to utilize the area in a new and different manner.

The arena is not finished yet, but the municipality works continuously on how it can be improved. Concerts, shows and outdoor theatre, sports events and other championships. There are a lot of ideas, and we are pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved. One thing is for certain, there will be a lot more events at magnificent Storheia Arena in the future.
