Gammelstua - Sortland Hotel
A fisherman farmers residence from 1850.
For hundreds of years the culture of the fishermen farmers dominated Northern Norway. In order to get by, one had to harvest food both from fishing and agriculture. This old and traditional building is a real fisherman farmers house built in 1850.
Originally it was located in Vefsn, but has been moved several times. First to Forfjord in 1892 where it was inhabited up until 1963. The following 50 years the house stood empty, before it was moved yet again in 2014. This time to Sortland and its current location.
Since then the house has been fully restored with a new kitchen, bathroom and living room. Despite being newly renovated, it still retains its old charm which is reflected in the traditional interior and decorations.
