Bø church
Bø Church is located on the Bø estate, a place where gravesites have been found dating from the Viking Era. The church is a cruciform log church containing a number of art objects from the Middle Ages.
The first written mention of a church in Bø was in 1381. The source is in the pre-1570 transcribed documents in the «Diplomatarium Norvegicum». The first church was probably built about 1340. The fifth of these was built in 1734, just east of where the present church stands today. A list of pastors and churches in the local area was found in 1940 in the Hadsel church archives. The list dates from 1690. The document shows that the church currently standing on the estate in Bø is the sixth church that was built, and that the construction work began in 1822.
The church is located on the Bø estate, and it is here that gravesites from the Viking Era were found. This is proof that Bø was a known settlement for a very long time. In 1908, the church was bought by the municipality and was restored during the same year. The church is a cruciform log church containing a number of art objects from the Middle Ages.
The church has room for a total of 370 persons.
