Sortland Museum

Sortland Museum can be found in the new culture house, Kulturfabrikken, which lies in the city centre of Sortland. Here you can experience exhibitions with different themes, perspectives and expressions. Currently two exhibitions are displayed: “Seabed” which brings you down into the deep sea to learn about life beneath the sea surface, and “A Covid Conversation” which is a photographic conversation between Krisitna R. Johnsen from Bø in Vesterålen and the American Sunny Strader regarding the ongoing pandemic.

The Exhibition Seabed is about the importance of the sea, the vulnerable ecosystem and the consequences of marine waste and pollution. Here you will experience life beneath the sea surface and watch up close the consequences littering has on the magnificent plants and animals that live there. Subsea footage and projections give the exhibition a unique expression. There are also plenty educational and exciting activities for children.

A Covid Conversation is a photography exhibition which gives you insight into two different, yet similar realities – respectively from Bø in Vesterålen and Los Angeles – as the society shut down in the beginning of the Covid-19-pandemic. This is a photographic conversation between Krisitna R. Johnsen from Bø in Vesterålen and Sunny Strader from Los Angeles regarding the ongoing pandemic. For 30 days the two photographers sent a picture to each other daily. The exhibition therefore shows the development of the pandemic from their realities respectively.
