The shop is well worth a visit! For more than 140, the shop has been offering a vide variety of groceries and goods, and today you can still study quite a lot of articles from the second world war-periode, until the closure of the shop in 1982. Equipment for horses, coffee replacement, soap, paper underwear and more necessities from ”the old days”. There is also a good selection of locally produced gifts/souvenirs. Free entrance.
The Museum is in the same building as the shop, and consists of the office of proprietor mr. Ødebert Johanssen. He was for a long time responsible for the shop, running the farm, the fish trade that took place at Jennestad, the local steam boat office/arrivals and a mine. The office and an exhibition will give a good impression of the activity around 1900 – 1940.
The museum and shop is open outside opening hours, for groups on request all year.
On Jennestad, there is also an art gallery that offers exhibitions, concerts and cultural experiences through the summer (not run by Sortland Museum, for info check www.jennestad.no)
