Flying to Vesterålen
Many of those who chose to spend their holiday in Vesterålen travel here by airplane. When travelling from overseas there is most often a brief stopover at the national airport Oslo Gardemoen (OSL) before a transfer flight brings you to Northern Norway. There area several daily departures from Oslo up north.
SAS + Widerøe
SAS fly directly from Oslo Gardemoen (OSL) to Harstad/Narvik Evenes (EVE) six days a week. You can also chose to transfer at a smaller airport through Widerøe and fly to Stokmarknes (SKN), Andenes (ANX) or airports furter south such as Svolvær (SVJ). In summer Widerøe has a direct route between Oslo (OSL) and Stokmarknes (SKN). Norwegian
The low fare company Norwegian fly directly from Oslo Gardemoen (OSL) to Harstad/Narvik Evenes (EVE). In the summer they also fly directly from Oslo Gardemoen (OSL) to Andenes (ANX). Norwegian fly from major citites all over Europe. See ticketprices and flighttimes at www.norwegian.no.
Flight Tips
Competition is fierce, so check the airlines’ websites for cheap tickets. Seasonal discounts (summer, winter, etc. ) are also often available. The earlier you book, the greater the chance of finding a low-cost fare.
From outside of Norway
If you are travelling to Northern Norway from abroad you will almost always have to transfer to another plane in Oslo. There are over 250 flights a week from Oslo to Northern Norway, and around 100 international airports have direct flights to Oslo which should make for a quick and seamless transfer at Oslo Gardemoen.
Which airport in Oslo?
Please note that there are several airports in the Oslo area. Almost all flights to Northern Norway depart from Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) . Several low-cost airlines operate out of Sandefjord Lufthavn Torp (TRF) . This airport is quite a long way from Oslo Airport Gardermoen. Make sure you check which airport you are flying into before you book any cheap tickets!
